Self-Defense, Tactical Awareness and Risk Recognition (S.T.A.R.R.)

The S.T.A.R.R. Tactics Program offers self-defense instruction for women, children, men and seniors. S.T.A.R.R.’s tactical approach to self-defense education stresses the need for continuous learning and practice. The program’s realistic training options help to reinforce lecture content. The skills and knowledge acquired from this program will help participants throughout the many facets of their lives.

The course includes lecture, discussion and hands-on self-defense techniques suitable for all ages and abilities. Classes average from four to six hours (depending on the Instructor and the participants the class may go beyond six hours).

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Raise their awareness of aggressive behaviors.
  • Understand state laws pertaining to self-defense.
  • Recognize how aggressive behavior impacts their lives.
  • Learn steps to avoid aggressive behavior.
  • Consider how they can be part of reducing aggression and violence.
  • Practice hands-on self-defense skills to resist and escape aggressive behavior directed towards them.

The S.T.A.R.R. Tactics Program is designed to empower participants to make safer choices when confronted with aggressive behavior. In addition, the program is designed for the average person with no previous experience or background in self-defense or physical skills training.


This class is usually sponsored by local organizations and groups (for example your local Police Department or Public Safety Department). Check with your community leaders to see if they are sponsoring a class in the near future.
